Averie Lucero, CMHC-Intern

Lehi Office

As a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern, I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges while reconnecting with themselves, their relationships, and their sense of purpose. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and hold a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Deaf Studies.

My primary areas of interest include perinatal and maternal mental health, pregnancy and postpartum adjustment, parenting, couples counseling, sexual health, grief, stress management, anxiety, depression, and communication challenges. I am especially passionate about supporting women through the many transitions of motherhood and helping couples strengthen their connection through healthy communication, deeper understanding, and meaningful growth.

My background includes studies in birth and doula support, mindfulness practices, somatic awareness, and energy work. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the connection between mind and body and influence my holistic, evidence-based approach to therapy. I enjoy helping clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a stronger connection to themselves through mindfulness and somatic-based practices.

I also have a special interest in serving members of the Deaf community, CODAs, and families navigating communication barriers. My education in Deaf Studies and American Sign Language has provided me with a deeper understanding of the unique cultural and relational experiences that can arise within Deaf and hearing families.

In addition to my professional training, I bring lived experience to my work as a wife of 14 years and mother of four children, I understand the beauty, complexity, and constant evolution that comes with relationships, parenting, and family life. I have also experienced my own journey through postpartum challenges and profound grief, which has strengthened my compassion for those navigating loss, life transitions, and the unexpected chapters of life. While every person’s story is unique, these experiences have deepened my belief in the human capacity for resilience, healing, and growth.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, compassionate, and client-centered. Drawing from Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), family systems perspectives, and mindfulness-based interventions, I tailor therapy to each individual’s unique needs and goals.

I believe healing happens when people feel seen, supported, and empowered. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, strengthen their relationships, process grief and life transitions, and move toward greater emotional well-being and fulfillment.
