Evan Thompson, CSW
Therapist
American Fork and Murray Offices
About Me:
I am a Certified Social Worker, with over fifteen years of general experience and eight years of
direct mental health counseling experience. I have used a wide variety of therapeutic
modalities in diverse settings. I have had the pleasure of supporting individuals and families
with mood disorders and co-morbidities presenting with substance abuse.
My approach to therapy is a client centered approach as it supports self-identification and
empowerment for each person to accept their present place, and a belief system that supports
their chosen path forward. I am dedicated to helping my clients achieve their personal goals
and improve their overall well-being.
Personal Philosophy:
I believe in the strength and resilience of every individual and am passionate about supporting
my clients on their journey toward personal growth and emotional healing. My goal is to
empower you with the tools and insights needed to create positive change and achieve a greater
sense of well-being.
Specialties and Areas of Focus:
• Relational Struggles: Use of systems theory and motivational interviewing to
identify and break down the persons, identities, expectations and behaviors to start
developing symbiotic relationships.
• Intra-personal Conflicts: Using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and at times
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, to help a person deal with internal conflicts that can
present as depression and anxiety.
• Life-Planning: Life planning is important, because goals and aspirations that
guide exploration and curiosity is often a recipe for fulfillment.
Therapeutic Approach:
My therapeutic approach integrates tenets of Trauma Theory with the selected modality that supports the
unique needs of the individual. Principles of motivational interviewing guide the CBT, DBT, psychodynamic
processes tailored specifically to meet your unique needs. I believe in creating a safe and non-
judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with support and
guidance.
Experience and Education:
• Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Pittsburgh
• Utah DOPL License #13725464-3502
What to Expect in Therapy:
In our sessions, you can expect an experience based on building a strong therapeutic
relationship that consistently provides opportunity to explore your innermost self, and finding
paths for self-empowerment that allows for lasting change. It is an experience where work will
be performed by both you and the therapist, that simulates healthy expectations and exchange
as practice in preparation of doing so in your everyday world. We will work together to explore
your concerns, set achievable goals, and develop eAective coping strategies. I am committed to
helping you navigate challenges and build a fulfilling life.
